14 Date Night Ideas When It’s Cold in Colorado Springs

Cold weather is perfect for getting close. These classic and creative date night ideas will set the stage for fun and romance with that someone special.

When the weather is cold, it’s the perfect time to get cozy with your significant other. Staying in for date night in Colorado Springs doesn’t necessarily mean staying home. There are lots of indoor options to get you out and having fun together. And sometimes, braving the chill may be just the ticket to good times and cuddling close, depending on your adventure-o-meter. Whatever your style, we’ve got you covered with these 14 ideas for fun dates in the Springs.

Date Night Ideas for Fun and Games

Looking for some flirtatious fun? Find it with these friendly competitions.

Bump It Up

Want to see them unleash their inner child? Grab your scoop and step into your grown up bumper car for a game of WhirlyBall. It’s kind of like basketball, lacrosse, hockey and bumper cars. It’s the most fun you can have at 4 mph. There’s a restaurant and bar, and you can play other games, including LaserTag, bowling, billiards and more. This one is great for double dates or groups.

Hit a Bucket of Balls

No, you don’t have to be a golfer. Yes, you hit golf balls with golf clubs, but TopGolf is all about the entertainment and fun. No experience on the links necessary. The cushy bays are heated for all weather fun. Get food and drinks. Choose your game. Compete with hole-in-nones and enjoy some flirtatious fun.

Date Night Ideas for Eating and Drinking

Sharing good food and well crafted libations can make a great date, and, of course, there is the standard of taking your sweetheart out for a night of fine dining. Our 30 Best Restaurants in Colorado Springs will point you in the right direction.

Toast Sunset from the Top of Downtown

Sink into a couch beside one of those sleek, modern fire pits at Lumen8 Rooftop Social. Clink craft cocktails. Pull in close. Melt in their eyes. And forget about any winter chill you might have been feeling. Lumen8 is sexy inside and out, so if the arctic blast really is too much on the patio, grab a table inside and fog up those floor to ceiling windows. Just plan your trip at sunset for the full romantic glow.

Pop a Cork

Are you a connoisseur or novice wanting to learn the intricacies of the vine? Doesn’t matter. If you’re looking to spark some romance, it’s hard to beat sipping wine together, nibbling finger foods from shared plates and nuzzling closer on a plush sofa at a local wine bar. Our picks? Vine and Wheel downtown elevates the experience with an extensive wine list and uber-chic atmosphere. Uva Wine Bar is your stylish go-to enclave at InterQuest. And Manitou’s Swirl provides a hip, eclectic vibe straight out of an indie rom-com.

Take a Food Tour

Why eat at one restaurant when you can explore a handful of favorite spots? Rocky Mountain Food Tours will take you on a guided dining and drinking walking tour of local hot spots, complete with historical storytelling and fun facts. You can choose a cocktail tour, brewery tour or original classic blend. And you can join a public tour or schedule a private tour if you have a group of at least eight.

Date Night Ideas for Shared Adventure

These probably aren’t for a first date. But want to really get to know that person or add a little excitement to the relationship? Get out and explore something new together.

Fly High Together

Set those butterflies in your stomach free. Sure, you may feel a little awkward, what with the helmet and flight-suit onesie, but hey, some people can totally rock the look. It’s worth it for that feeling of flying! Book your indoor skydiving flights in the state-of-the-art wind tunnel at iFly in Northgate. Instructors will help even the most inexperienced newbie experience the sensation of flying. And riding that adrenaline wave together will stick with you for a good long while. Plus, there’s a full bar for a little apres bonding as you toast your aerial acrobatics!

Go Snowshoeing

Embrace that snow. Rent a pair of snowshoes from Mountain Chalet or REI and hit the trail for a magical trek in a winter wonderland. Your fireside warmup will be that much better. Need some hints on where to go? Try these 3 Great Trails for Snowshoeing.

Ice Skate Your Cares Away

Going out with a figure skater or hockey player? Then you can glide gracefully together. Got that beginner newborn deer wobble? Then you can hold on tight to each other or collapse laughing on the ice. Enjoy your choice of climate-controlled rinks year-round. You’ll find them listed here: Where to Find Ice Skating in Colorado Springs. And if you’re lacing up the skates November through January, head downtown for the romantic outdoor ambiance of twinkly string lights at Skate in the Park

Climb to New Heights

Don’t worry: You don’t have to put your life in your partner’s hands. Indoor rock climbing gyms have auto-belay systems that will keep you safe and secure as you scale the walls. (If you’re experienced climbers, you can belay each other.) CityRock downtown and Gripstone at Powers and Dublin both offer lots of space and a wide variety of routes. That’s good for trying something new and and encouraging each other no matter what ability level you are.

Date Night Ideas for Pampering

Leave your cares behind and go for full relaxation mode. Consider these a micro-getaway.

Soak in a Hot Spring

Slip into a soaking pool at SunWater Spa, where the solar-heated spring water feels that much better if it’s snowing on your head. Each of the wooden soaking tubs is by reservation only, so you’ll have it all to yourselves for 90 minutes — plenty of time to relax and savor the Manitou mountain views, whether they’re snowy or clear. For a bonus, find your flow together in a yoga class.

Learn the Art of Couples Massage

Any spa can provide you a couples massage to relax together, but why not explore the massage that keeps on giving? Absolute Body Balance offers a Couples Massage Workshop that provides hands-on training in the art of massage, including communication, body mechanics, techniques, pressure and touch sensitivity. The two-hour session won’t make you a pro, but it promises “to spice up your relationship and spark a new way of communicating” with your partner.

Date Night Ideas to Explore Arts and Entertainment

Paint with Your Partner

Get artsy together, even if you have no art skills. Painting With a Twist provides all the supplies and walks you through the process. Pick your class by the painting you want to create, and follow the instructors easy guidance. The onsite bar has wine, beer and soft drinks. Colorado Springs has locations in Briargate, the Powers corridor, downtown and on the Westside. Maybe the real masterpiece is your relationship.

Listen to Some Live Music

Get your groove on together. Maybe do a little dancing and see where the rhythms take you. When it comes to music, everyone has their own style, but for sultry vibes, chic environs and top shelf cocktails, we recommend Tokki and Lulu’s Downtown.

Go to the Theater

Not the movie kind of theater, the live kind. It’s a fun way to dress things up and be moved by the live stage performers. There are many great local theaters to find a variety of shows (see Live Theater Returns). For date night, start with these: TheatreWorks opens The Heart Sellers on Jan. 30 at the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS. The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company has In Her Bones coming up Feb. 13 – March 2. The Colorado Springs Philharmonic  takes a fun romp through Back to the Future over Valentine’s Day weekend, and the Pikes Peak Center has a wide variety of shows on the schedule, from concerts and  Kodo taiko drumming to standup comedy and traveling Broadway tours.
