7 Favorite Breakfast Burritos in Colorado Springs

Looking for the best breakfast burrito around? Here’s a delicious place to start, thanks to local food maven Meagan Thomas who has been reviewing breakfast burritos all over town.

I’m constantly getting asked, “Where’s your favorite place to grab a burrito to-go?” I understand why — who doesn’t love a breakfast burrito? I’ve always had my go-to taco shops, but I decided it was time to branch out and explore what we’ve got in Colorado Springs and share it with you guys! Now known by some on social media as “burrito girl,” I’ve tried 20-plus handheld breakfast burritos around Colorado Springs — and still counting.

For research purposes, I usually order my go-to (chorizo, potato, egg and cheese) as the constant, but I occasionally switch it up if chorizo isn’t on the menu. The main things I pay attention to? Price, tortilla texture, meat quality, salsa options and potatoes — there is a big debate over whether fries should be in a breakfast burrito.

Every time I post a review, I get plenty of opinions from the peanut gallery, so this is not a top list, but more like seven really delicious burritos you’ve got to try. Whether you’re looking for something more traditional, chef-driven or just well-priced, here are a few great options for handheld breakfast burritos in Colorado Springs.

Azada

Azada is a downtown staple. While the burrito overall is good — nice portions, well-seasoned fillings, overall tastiness — Azada makes this list for two very specific reasons. First, their Avocado Spicy Salsa is so delicious I could drink it on its own. But the key to their breakfast burritos being so good is the fresh, homemade tortillas that they make in front of you to order. When you bite into an Azada burrito, it tastes like someone’s abuela made it with love. It’s the ultimate comfort pick.

Rocha’s

Rocha’s Mexican Fast Food is serving up the overall pick to please. The burrito is large, flavorful, and hits the spot if you’re looking for a traditional taco shop breakfast burrito. Their salsas are fantastic, and the price makes sense for what you get. There’s nothing fancy or unique about this breakfast burrito — it’s just plain good.

Tacos el Amigo

The breakfast burrito at Tacos el Amigo is one of the last remaining breakfast burritos under $6 in town. While you can occasionally find a place with a similar price, I’ve learned the burritos at Tacos El Amigo give you more bang for your buck and have better quality (cue the Quijotes loyalists rioting). The salsas at Tacos el Amigo are good, and the breakfast burrito is delicious. While you’re there, grab a birria taco. You’ll thank me.

Dos Dos

This is a breakfast burrito that went to private school. Dos Dos has high quality ingredients along with some fun takes. Alongside the usual breakfast burrito protein options (bacon, chorizo/sausage, egg only), Dos Dos offers some not-so-typical taco shop fillings, including fried plantains and avocado or birria! They use tater tots as their potatoes which gives the burrito great texture, and Dos Dos’ salsas are all housemade and perfect on the burrito.

Albertacos

This is a Colorado Springs OG and honestly one of the best breakfast burritos in town. The tortillas are a great texture, the burritos are big, and they don’t skimp on meat or seasoning. The controversial take on Albertacos is that they use fries in their burritos for potatoes. If that’s not your jam, this burrito isn’t for you. Their salsas are fine, but you might be better off using your favorite hot sauce at home.

Cheesy breakfast burrito last Huevones in Colorado Springs held by @actuallyitsmeagan

Huevones

Huevones is the pick for the foodie who loves a chef-driven menu. This is not your typical taco shop breakfast burrito. The downtown food truck makes everything on the menu from scratch, and you can tell the instant you take a bite. Their breakfast burritos include their delicious, slow-cooked beans inside, which add an incredible layer of flavor, and then the burrito is sealed with crispy, melted cheese on the outside. Make sure you get a bean and cheese burrito to go with your breakfast burrito — it’s the best in town.

Roll Up

Roll Up is located in the Widefield/Security area, and they’ve got one of the best breakfast burritos around. They’re pricey, but you get what you pay for. The burritos are huge and bursting with eggs, cheese and meat. The seasoned potatoes in this burrito truly make it special, and I definitely recommend the pork green chile on the side. At $14.50+, this breakfast burrito is definitely a splurge, but they’ve got their loyal customers for a reason — it’s worth it.
