Imagine settling in to your reclining seat and sipping a cup of coffee as you watch the ranchland and neighborhoods and I-25 gridlock whiz by on your way to a business meeting, family gathering or weekend getaway in Denver, Pueblo or Fort Collins? That reality isn’t too far as Colorado’s Front Range Passenger Rail District (FRPRD) continues to make progress. The current question is are you riding on CoCo, FRED, Rangelink or the Colorado Ranger? You can vote to help choose.
The FRPRD Name the Train contest is now open to vote. Its original March 23 deadline was extended to March 30, and the early response was big with more than 18,000 people voting in the first three days.
“Extending the contest gives more Coloradans the opportunity to cast a vote, share their stories and take part in shaping the future of an express passenger train in Colorado,” said Sal Pace, general manager of the Front Range Passenger Rail District.
“Coloradans are clearly excited about the future of passenger rail in our state,” Governor Jared Polis said. “This train will connect communities across the Front Range, expand transportation options for Coloradans and visitors, reduce traffic and pollution, and save us time and money. Now Coloradans have the opportunity to choose the name we’ll see on the rails for years to come. Make sure to cast your vote today!”

Here are the names you can vote on, chosen by the FRPRD:
CoCo — Colorado Connector
“A train that brings communities together and makes travel easier, faster, and less stressful.”
Colorado Ranger
“A train built for the Colorado landscape and lifestyle – ready to take you farther, faster.”
FRED — Front Range Express Destinations
“A dependable, easy train service designed to get you to the places and people that matter most.”
Rangelink
“Links communities along the Range, connecting people to jobs, schools, and destinations without the hassle of driving.”
Early voting shows Colorado Connector — “CoCo” currently leading the contest, but another unnamed finalist remains close behind.
For some extra incentive, everyone who votes will be entered to win a trip for two on the inaugural passenger trip, which is scheduled for 2029.

The Front Range Passenger Rail express intercity train service will connect 13 communities from Fort Collins to Pueblo. Stations are planned in Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Louisville, Broomfield, Westminster, Denver, Littleton, Douglas County, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Trinidad. The longer range vision could expand passenger train service all the way from Wyoming to New Mexico.
The preferred location for a station in Colorado Springs is downtown near America the Beautiful Park and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, according to the City of Colorado Springs’ location study conducted in 2022.
