My Neighbor Felix Opening in Colorado Springs

The Denver-based upscale Mexican restaurant is opening its first Colorado Springs location soon. Here's what you can expect.

Colorado Springs is getting a muy yummy new neighbor. The Denver-based Pan-Mexican restaurant is opening soon in the Promenade Shops at Briargate. Drawing culinary inspiration from all over Mexico, the north-side restaurant will add another elevated Mexican hot spot to the list of Springs dining options. After an original announcement with an earlier date, the restaurant is still targeting an early August opening with an exact date to be confirmed.

My Neighbor Felix will take over the Shops at Briargate site formerly filled by the California Pizza Kitchen. It will feature sit-down service that includes bar seating and a 1,200 square-foot outdoor patio with a fountain and panoramic views of Pikes Peak and the Front Range.

“We’ve created a space, experience and cuisine that everyone in the neighborhood can love,” says Maria Merlin, marketing manager. “Our recipes are authentic and well complemented by our mixologists’ hand-crafted, fresh and flavorful Mexican signature cocktails and margaritas. Guests can expect to enjoy a lively, eclectic mosaic of Mexico City decorating the interior along with traditional crafts and natural touches throughout.”

My Neighbor Felix’s philosophy is “to nourish bodies and souls with locally sourced ingredients that are fresh, high quality and natural whenever possible.” Its chef-driven menu will offer celebratory interpretations from all seven culinary regions of Mexico:

  • The North, including Baja, Sonora, Zacatecas, featuring hearty ranch culture.
  • The North Pacific Coast, representing Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima with many of the country’s staple grains, fruits and vegetables and known for dishes such as birria, pozole and menudo.
  • The Bajio, the mostly central plateau known for rice, pork and spices.
  • The South Pacific Coast, home of the highlands of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Chiapas and the nation’s most indigenous cuisines that include Oaxaca cheese and mole.
  • The South, home of the Yucatan Peninsula and its distinct Mayan and Caribbean influences and tropical fruits.
  • The Gulf, including Tabasco and Veracruz and a mix of indigenous, Afro-Cuban, Spanish and Creole flavors that feature corn, vanilla and popular red snapper.
  • Central Mexico, featuring the melting-pot capital Mexico City with rich street food and haute cuisine cultures.

Differences within these region’s crops and spices leave clues as to where their dishes have originated from, and this will be notable in My Neighbor Felix’s menu offerings, says a press release. Guests can expect an array of enchilada, seafood and steak dishes, and its meats will be Colorado-sourced to meet Never Ever standards, which will ensure they contain no antibiotics, hormones or by-products. There will also be vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free selections.

The bar will feature handcrafted, fresh Mexican signature cocktails and margaritas along with an extensive tequila and mezcal selection. Of course, the bartenders like to have fun with other specials, as evidenced by the Taylor Swift Eras Tour cocktails recently featured at its other locations.

Brunch will be served on Saturdays and Sundays. And those looking for a deal will want to check out the lunch combo menu and weekday happy hour specials.

Colorado Springs will be the fourth location for My Neighbor Felix. Its other outposts are Boulder, Centennial and Denver’s LoHi neighborhood. Felix’s sister restaurant ViewHouse is already in the Springs. And the Denver-based parent company Lotus Concepts says it plans to open its other restaurants Wonderyard, Noble Steakhouse and VHBeer in the Springs soon.
