In celebration of Arts Month 2022, the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance, Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control & Greenway District, Creek Week, and the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region have joined forces once again to orchestrate the 5th annual Pikes Peak Litter Letter Project. Each year, our local Litter Letter Project produces a unique piece of sculptural art that is constructed with trash collected from public lands and waterways during Creek Week. Modeled after the national Litter Letter Project, and with permission to use their logo and concept, our local Litter Letter Project is a fun and inspiring annual event that signals the official start of Arts Month. It’s also a wonderful cross-sector collaboration between the Arts, Outdoor Recreation, and Environmental sectors that benefits the entire region! Our past words have been INSPIRE (2018), PRISTINE (2019), RESILIENT (2020), and RESPECT (2021). This year’s word is: PRICELESS.

On Friday, September 30th at 4:30PM, there will be a dedication ceremony for the 2022 Litter Letter art piece. The dedication event is free and open to the public, and will feature brief remarks by project partners and community leaders. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, as well as live musical entertainment from Ryan Flores, courtesy of the Curbside Culture program. Throughout the month of October, the local community is also invited to support our Litter Letter Project though a special social media campaign on Instagram, by using the hashtag #PikesPeakLitterLetters to tell us why you think our public lands and waterways are PRICELESS?

Interested in “adopting” a letter to fill with your Creek Week Cleanup Crew? Email creekweeksoco@gmail.com for more information.

The litter letters, constructed by local nonprofit Concrete Couch, will be on display throughout the month of October in celebration of Arts Month. Well-sited on a berm, just off Cimarron Street, east of I-25 and south of America the Beautiful Park, the art piece is also visible from the adjacent trail.

Media inquiries and questions about the project should be directed to Andy Vick at andy@CulturalOffice.org.

World Singing Day is not a competition, and no rehearsals are required. Anyone can join in the fun! For Arts Month 2022, our local World Singing Day event will be held on Saturday, October 15, from 1-3 p.m. in front of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, located at 200 S. Sierra Madre Street in downtown Colorado Springs. Song books with the lyrics of all the songs will be provided.

World Singing Day is a global sing-along held annually on the 3rd Saturday in October. As a catalyst for positive human connection, this one day each year serves as an opportunity to celebrate our global family through the international language of music.

Founded in 2012 by Colorado musician Scott Johnson, World Singing Day brings people together in their communities all around the world through the simple act of singing together.

World Singing Day is not religious or political and encourages people to put aside their differences and celebrate what we all share as human beings. World Singing Day is for everyone, regardless of your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, singing ability, and age.

World Singing Day is a joyful community experience for musicians and non-musicians alike, from shower singers to celebrities, as they gather in their communities and sing together without the pressure of performing.

Please join us for our 2nd Annual Native Seed Share! You do not need to provide seeds to participate! If you have access to native seeds, please put clean seeds in separate containers (a paper bag or envelope, or a glass jar; one species per container) and label each container with as much information as you can (the genus and species, common name(s), location collected (approximate elevation) and date/year collected. If you would like to arrange a donation of seeds ahead of the event or if you have any questions about how to collect and clean seeds, please email manitouseedlibrary@gmail.com and we will offer you guidance and provide you with a drop-off location.

This is a native (Colorado and regional) seed swap; please no vegetable, herb, or non-native annual/perennial seeds. And please, no mystery seeds.

Always obtain permission to collect seeds from gardens and public landscapes prior to collection. Only collect species that you can positively identify, and never collect rare or protected species growing outside of your own garden. Remember to leave seeds as winter forage for birds and other wildlife.

The Wild Ones Front Range Chapter is co-hosting this event with the People and Pollinators Action Network, the Southeast Chapter of the Colorado Native Plant Society, the Manitou Pollinators and the Manitou Springs Seed Library. Many thanks to our hosts at the Gardens of the Gods!
