Strata’s unmatched views of Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, top-tier amenities and experienced, attentive technicians combine to create an irresistible space for deep relaxation and therapeutic renewal. Located at the Garden of the Gods Resort and Club, Strata boasts a 10,000-square-foot dedicated building with state-of-the-art design, amenities and services. “Strata isn’t just a spa — it’s a holistic wellness destination that goes beyond the typical spa,” says Tania McCorkle, director of spa, fitness and recreation. “It offers traditional spa services along with a wide array of Ayurvedic massage therapies, energy healing, CBD therapeutics, results-driven skincare treatments using only the top-of-the-line skin care products and a beautiful salon for all your beauty needs.”
We have found Strata’s massage therapists to be exceptionally intuitive in locating and relieving muscle tension. Be sure to plan extra time around your spa appointment to discover the complimentary Relaxation Room, herbal steam room, experiential rain showers and detoxifying Himalayan Salt Inhalation Room and dry sauna. Or stop by the Beach & Cable Barista on your way in or out for healthy bites, fresh beverages or pastries baked in-house. There’s no shortage of healing options at Strata.
Seasonal Special Alert: Strata regularly highlights specials and discounts. Current offers include a complimentary TheraFace treatment upgrade to your 50-Minute Strata Spa Facial. And for Mother’s Day, all services are 15% off on May 10-11.
When You Need a Step Toward Healing: Camino Massage Therapy

There’s a woman standing on my back — and it feels amazing. I (Jeremy) have come for an Ashiatsu barefoot massage, a Japanese technique that provides deep, broad pressure to muscles and tissue from above. Therapists use overhead bars and a strap suspended from the ceiling to balance and support themselves, so their weight is never fully upon you. To be honest, for much of the session, I can’t tell if Bryony Walker is using her hands or her feet. She tells me she has developed equal sensitivity in both and that she enjoys the flexibility Ashiatsu provides. I’m hooked, finding the deep, even pressure just the right key to unlock the trouble spots in my back and shoulders.
Ashiatsu is a specialty at Camino as it is also the Colorado training center for the Center of Barefoot Massage with owner Erin Poovey leading instruction. But the spa is also a full wellness sanctuary offering a wide range of massage modalities, from full body to facial, as well as stretch therapy. For a perfect massage pairing, add a session in the Recovery Room for some contrast therapy between the infrared sauna and cold plunge tub.
There’s an empowering, collaborative theme that runs through regular movement workshops, such as Massage Your Partner. And unique Floating Sound Bath and Floating Meditation sessions use hanging cocoon-like hammocks. Its all part of Camino’s elevated and organic invitation to walk with you on a healing journey.
When You Need a Deep Breath: Mateo’s Day Spa

For more than 25 years, Mateo’s Day Spa has been a Rockrimmon staple thanks to its personalized service and community ties. Founded by retired Army nurse Cindy Reiman, Mateo’s is home to a staff that feels more like family. Some therapists and technicians have stayed for 15 to 20 years, and many clients return decade after decade. “Generations of clients have grown up with us,” Reiman says. “One of our guests got her first pedicure here when she was 3 years old; now she’s in college and still comes to see us.”
It’s all a testament to Mateo’s reputation for consistency and service. The spa also boasts a comprehensive service list, from nail treatments to peels, waxing, medical skincare, lash extensions, massages and facials. There is an additional full-service salon as well. The combination makes Mateo’s a convenient and approachable oasis where you can refresh for an hour or a day.
During a recent visit, I (Katy) was impressed with the level of individual attention during a 30-minute Revitalize Facial. My esthetician, Nora, carefully adapted the entire treatment after I explained my sensitive skin and preference for oil-free, noncomedogenic products. The facial itself included all the essentials — cleansing, toning, steaming, exfoliation and moisture — along with a choice of a bonus scalp, hand or decolletage massage. I chose the decolletage and found those few minutes of targeted attention unexpectedly soothing, rounding out the experience perfectly.
When You Need a Sacred Journey: SunWater Spa

Manitou Springs has long been known as a place of healing, from wellness resorts of its pioneer days to the ancient tribes who gathered around its sacred waters. Since opening in 2015, SunWater Spa has channeled the flow of the 7 Minute Spring into an organic sanctuary for wellness. “It’s our vision to cultivate a healing oasis centered around community, connection and creativity,” says Joey Selz, marketing, media and IT manager.
SunWater offers regular yoga, movement and wellness sessions and events. And a soak in its solar-heated outdoor cedar tubs is relaxing on its own as you drink in the surrounding views of Pikes Peak and Manitou crags. Soaking is by reservation for a specific tub. Those on the third level deck enjoy the highest views, but we’re fans of the ground level tubs, which are most convenient for hopping between the larger saline pools, cold plunge tubs and sauna (all included with a soak).
Of course, the best way to experience SunWater is to combine your soak with a therapeutic treatment from the full-service spa. Therapists are skilled in a wide range of massage techniques that include sound healing, Ashiatsu and Thai yoga. And SunWater’s most unique offerings are brand-new bamboo massage and a variety of hydrotherapy treatments done beneath a multihead vichy shower.
However deep a plunge we take at SunWater Spa, we always come away feeling like it was a rejuvenating escape.
Seasonal Special Alert: Save on 8 a.m. weekday soaks; it’s only $28 per person Tuesday through Thursday.
When You Need a New Perspective: Ascend Spa at Hotel Polaris

With panoramic views of the Front Range and U.S. Air Force Academy, Ascend Spa is as much about the setting as it is the service. Whatever treatment you come for, arrive early to enjoy a scenic escape in the North Star Relaxation Lounge even before your services begin. Here zero-gravity chairs cradle you into bliss as you sip complimentary refreshments and bath in sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The spa’s service menu includes massages, facials and enhancements tailored for deep relaxation. We recommend the 50-minute Hydrating Hand, Foot and Scalp Massage, designed for anyone who’s spent too much time at a desk or in high heels. The treatment combines the nourishing benefits of Echofin, a shea butter alternative applied with heat packs, and Nutrient 9x oil, a blend of nine hydrating oils for scalp and hair health. On a recent visit, we paired it with an a self-heating Under Eye Rescue Mask, designed to treat puffiness and fatigue. Ahh, more please!
Guests also enjoy access to the Hotel Polaris yoga flex studio and fitness center, as well as the outdoor swimming pool, which is open seasonally. Ascend Spa is open to the public. No hotel stay is required, but making a full Hotel Polaris getaway is the ultimate add-on to your spa day.
Seasonal Special Alert: Locals who book by May 31 receive a complimentary enhancement, from CBD to dry brushing or a scalp massage (a $25 value).
When You Need an Urban Hideaway: MX Spa at the Mining Exchange Hotel

Ready to exchange your stress for bliss? Rich history and modern luxury combine to create serenity in the heart of downtown at the MX Spa located in the renovated Mining Exchange Hotel. Beneath the exposed granite block walls and heavy vault doors which maintain the character of the Mining Exchange’s 1902 origins, you’ll find an underground oasis where you can steal away for an hour or a day. “It’s like a private hideaway,” says Spa Director Rachael Tarbotton. “The perfect atmosphere where you can escape from reality.”
Melt away all tension in the infrared dry sauna or steam room prior to your scheduled spa service. And watch for a new locals membership program designed to make it even easier to incorporate regular escapes into your busy lifestyle, offering day-use of convenient spa amenities along with one spa treatment per month.
Once you emerge from your spa bliss, enjoy live music in the hotel lobby, an infused coffee from Blk Mgk or a signature cocktail at Golden Hour. Have time for more? Satisfy your taste buds with elevated farm-to-fork Italian flavors at the brand-new Oro restaurant, scheduled to open April 26.
Seasonal Special Alert: Don’t miss seasonal specials like the current spring offerings: In Your Gorgeous Era facial and Trailblazers CBD massage.
When You Need a Luxurious Escape: The Spa at Flying Horse

The Spa at Flying Horse stands out for its luxurious club atmosphere — minus the exclusivity. The spa at the north Colorado Springs resort community is open to the public, and the experience and staff are warm and welcoming.
Spa Manager Lupe Schaefer says it’s the staff that makes the Spa at Flying Horse stand out. And in our experience, a treatment like the Signature Manicure and Pedicure feels like a conversation with a longtime friend. Between treatments, we have shared pictures of our dogs with our technician and talked about family plans for travel and dinner. The impeccable mani-pedi services themselves include nail shaping, detailed cuticle care, buffing, an exfoliating sugar scrub and a deeply hydrating masque. After that comes warm towels, a relaxing massage and a flawless polish application.
Like the rest of Flying Horse Resort, the spa and its treatment rooms are beautifully designed. And the menu of services is impressive, offering everything from full body treatments and massages to hair, brows, lashes and waxing. Want to sample or indulge? Try a Taste of the Spa or Ultimate Spa Day Package. Or mark your special occasion with a Couples Celebration Package that includes side-by-side massages by candlelight, an aroma soak in the hydrotherapy suite, charcuterie and wine or Champagne.
Seasonal Special Alert: Watch for regular monthly specials at the Spa at Flying Horse. April offers include a Himalayan Salt Stone Massage upgrade and Pomegranate Raspberry Refresh Pedicure.
When You Need to Recharge: Alluvia Spa at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Hotel

Cheyenne Mountain Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Hotel, is tucked away against the natural beauty of the foothills in southwest Colorado Springs. And there, Alluvia Spa and Wellness Retreat has everything you need to step away and recharge. Drawing its name from the life-giving, mineral-rich soils deposited by flowing water, the spa taps into the healing resources of the earth to provide a refreshing spa experience. We love the flowing water wall in the Sanctuary Lounge and the majestic views of Cheyenne Mountain from the seasonal outdoor patio.
Alluvia offers a full menu of nail salon treatments including dazzle dry natural nail products, as well as pampering spa experiences. There are even specific offerings for teen guests. And the resort location offers plenty of space to gather family members or friends for a special spa day. Located adjacent to the club fitness and tennis center, there’s nothing pretentious about the Alluvia Spa — it’s simply a natural spot to rest and recharge.
Tips for Experiencing Your Best Spa Experience
Here’s how to thrive at your favorite Colorado Springs spa and get the best experience for yourself and those around you.
Switch it off.
You can’t escape with your cellphone buzzing. Turn off all electronics and embrace the silence.
Own it.
This is your time, so speak up and do what’s right for you. Whether it’s choosing fragrances, adjusting pressure or deciding how much or how little to cover up, most spas will customize their treatment for your comfort.
Be generous.
Standard gratuity is 20%. Some spas include this on your bill; most leaving tipping to your discretion. Enjoy all the extra amenities offered, but don’t forget to show some love for your therapist or technician.
