A focus on sustainable materials, natural ingredients and scents that hold their own from first light to final burn is shaping what FFO Goods brings to Old Colorado City. The family-owned and operated candle company has opened its storefront with a model built around refillable design and a hands-on, local process.
FFO — short for Far From Ordinary — is run by Nick and Brandi Haskins alongside their kids, Max and Parker. Nick leads product development and the brand’s visual direction, while Brandi manages social media and customer experience. Parker heads up Good Magnet Co., a companion brand producing magnets sold in the shop, and Max serves as head of local connections, helping build relationships with other businesses in the community. Stella, their 13-year-old dog, rounds out the team as project manager — present for every decision, keeping everyone on task and things running smoothly.
At the core of the brand is a shift away from paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct created during the refining of crude oil and commonly used in many candles. FFO instead uses a blend of coconut and soy wax, paired with fragrance oils sourced from U.S. manufacturers that meet strict safety standards. Beyond ingredients, there’s an emphasis on performance. Each scent is tested to ensure its consistency. If a fragrance fades too quickly or doesn’t hold throughout the life of the candle, it doesn’t make it to the shelf.
The candle vessels themselves are made from hand-poured concrete and designed to be reused. Once a candle burns down, the remaining wax can be removed and replaced with a refill insert sized to fit the original container — allowing customers to rotate scents without discarding the container.
There is also a Good Pet collection for those whose home comes with paws, fur and the occasional lingering wet dog scent. It includes candles, wax melts and sprays designed to address odor at the source. Rather than masking smells, the formulas bind to odor molecules in the air, making them heavier so they drop and dissipate over time.
FFO Goods will host a grand opening March 21 at 10 a.m. with Sip and Savor serving drinks.
