Wrong Turn Haunted Maze Brings a Spooky Downtown Twist

COATI’s seasonal pop-up Harvest Bar takes a dark descent into a feverish nightmare. Hopefully the pumpkin season cocktails are the cure.

Want to get scared? Here’s a new chance to mix fall vibes, craft cocktails and horror story thrills. COATI is getting its spooky on with the Wrong Turn Haunted Maze. The hair-raising pop-up begins Oct. 20 and runs past Halloween until Nov. 4, so you can get some extra chills through the fall.

“Autumn in the mountains beckons us to revel in the season and embrace the eerie delights of spooky season,” says Aaron Ewton, the founder of COATI and the Atlas Restaurant Group. “We couldn’t resist bringing a touch of fall fright and delight to the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. We’ve joined forces with Cave Productions to ensure that this experience is spine-tingling and utterly unforgettable.”

Think of it as a haunted house 2.0. You’ll start on the Taphouse rooftop with exclusive access to the seasonal pop-up Harvest Bar. A cocktail or mocktail is included with your ticket, and you’ll find all the fall feels with pumpkins, hay bales and cornstalks. The seasonal cocktails include the Folgers Moment, which Ewton says is “a twist on an Irish Coffee that draws on the autumnal depth of cognac and plays with the unexpected and surprisingly delightful combination of black coffee and pineapple.”

And then there’s the Pumpkin Spice of Life, garnished with — not making this up — a mini slice of pumpkin pie. “Pumpkin Spice of Life is a flip style cocktail (one with egg and sugar) made for the basic b in all of us,” Ewton says. “Pumpkin, coconut cream and pumpkin spice give the drinker a refreshing and delightful seasonal hug.”

It all sounds innocent enough, right? But then comes the Wrong Turn. Like a character in a horror movie, you’ll blindly descend down the dark and creepy staircase, ignoring all the sinister signals. When you cross the alley below into the former Sound Shop, you’ll find yourself in the depths of a haunted farmhouse and bone-chilling fever dream. Yes, it looks gory and terrifying. The 15-30 minute scream-fest includes dim lighting, fog machines, actors in full costumes jumping out, intense audio and special effects.

If you make it out, you’ll wind your way back to COATI for the conclusion that they are calling “exhilarating.” Maybe the Wrong Turn is the right turn for your spooky season after all. You can find all the details and purchase haunted maze tickets at wrongturncos.com.
