There’s a new place to train in downtown Colorado Springs. Iron Wild Fitness opened this May, giving downtown residents and workers a locally owned gym within walking distance of home or work.
The gym was founded by Aaron Kaufman, a Colorado Springs native who has called the city home for more than 40 years and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1996. After spending more than a decade managing gyms around town, he said he kept running into the same problems: overcrowded floors, oversold memberships and environments that felt impersonal. He set out to build something different: a gym that feels personal rather than transactional.
Membership is intentionally capped to keep the space comfortable and uncrowded, with more access to equipment and less waiting for machines. The training floor is outfitted with a mix of selectorized machines, which guide movement along a fixed path for beginners, and plate-loaded equipment for lifters who want more control over their form. A separate stretch and movement area supports mobility work. Members also have access to private showers with complimentary towel service, plus on-site personal training for those who want structured programming.
“During the summer, we offer pop-up classes,” Kaufman says. “We have partnered with Core Collective Pilates Studio to offer Mat Pilates classes. And our in-house trainer, Carissa, has also started a women’s group run on Saturday morning to build community.”
Iron Wild has also partnered with local businesses, such as Balanced Journey Nutrition, Ritual Hot House and Panino’s, for giveaways and collaborations.
“We have received a great response from local residents and businesses alike,” Kaufman says.
Introductory rates are still available, with memberships starting at $79 a month with no long-term contract, or $69 a month for first responders, military members and educators. The gym is also offering a paid-in-full annual rate for its 2026 founding members.
