Colorado music fans have a lot to look forward to in January at The Broadmoor Sessions. Colorado’s own Big Head Todd and the Monsters will headline the annual concert weekend, and they’ll be joined by Hazel Miller & The Collective and the Boulder-based The Disruptors. Taking place January 16-17, 2026, the weekend blends live music, luxury accommodations and amenities, and blues-drenched rock ‘n’ roll vibes.
“We like playing more intimate shows,” the band’s frontman Todd Park Mohr told us recently. “It’s always a great opportunity for us. Obviously, the Broadmoor is an incredible venue. It’s a historic hotel. I’ve been going there since I was a kid, so that’s going to be a lot of fun for us.”
Monster Friendships
Mohr says his family couldn’t afford to stay at the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond hotel when he was growing up, but they made day visits to the scenic Broadmoor. It wasn’t too far from his home in Littleton, Colorado, where Mohr and bandmates Rob Squires and Brian Nevin first began jamming together as friends at Columbine High School in the ’80s. (Jeremy Lawton joined the band later in 2003.)
From there the Monsters’ trajectory went from house parties to Denver and Boulder clubs while students at CU Boulder to a pair of independent albums to a record deal with Warner Bros. subsidiary Giant Records. Their 1993 label debut, Sister Sweetly, broke out nationally and hit platinum with rock-radio hits such as “Bittersweet,” “Broken Hearted Savior” and the above-quoted “It’s Alright.”
For 40 years, Big Head Todd and the Monsters have been a touring juggernaut, known for their muscular blues-based rock and jam band creativity. They have been Red Rocks staples since 1991, and the band was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
Staying together for four decades — and still putting out fresh, relevant music such as their 2024 release Her Way Out — puts the band in elite company with bands such as the Rolling Stones, U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“It’s the same secrets as for a good marriage, which is listen to each other, respect each other and have common goals, which we’ve had,” says Mohr when asked how the band has made things work for so long.
With all their years of touring, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Big Head Todd and the Monsters has played at The Broadmoor once before — at the 2018 Space Symposium. Mohr says he remembers a big crowd with a lot of dark suits.
“What was cool is after that show, Eileen Collins, who’s an astronaut and Space Shuttle commander, came up and talked to me,” Mohr says. “I wrote a song actually inspired by her about the shuttle program called ‘Blue Sky.’ She came up to me to thank me and said how much that meant to her. So that was pretty awesome.”
The Broadmoor Sessions
This time around at the Broadmoor Sessions, the Monsters will headline the Saturday night show on Jan. 17. Hazel Miller & The Collective, known for her powerful voice and vivacious spirit, will star on Friday, Jan. 16 after Boulder’s own The Disruptors open with their six-piece blend of jazz, blues, funk and soul. Don’t be surprised to see Hazel Miller join Big Head Todd as well. The musicians are long-time friends, touring together since their early careers. Both were inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
“We love Hazel,” Mohr says. “We started playing with her early in the ’90s, right before our career even began. We were watching her sing in Boulder. And, obviously, she’s been a big presence in Colorado music her entire life, which is as long as we’ve been playing music. So we always look forward to being with her, and she’ll be sitting in with us, I’m sure, on our sets”
