We Are the Colorado Stampede

The UFL announce the new team name, colors and thundering bison logo as Colorado Springs’ pro football team. The herd is ready to rumble at Weidner Field.

It’s official. Colorado Springs’ UFL pro football team is the Colorado Stampede — as in a stampede of thundering bison ready to batter their way through the growing United Football League. The team announced its new name, logo and identity at the official launch party at Weidner Field on Oct. 25.

“From the foothills of Pikes Peak to the heart of Colorado Springs, the Stampede name embodies the independent spirit, resilience and untamed power of Colorado,” the UFL’s official statement stated. “Inspired by the Plains Bison — an enduring symbol of strength, determination and unyielding resilience — the Stampede captures a collective force that builds quietly beneath the surface before surging into view. It’s the rumble you feel in the ground before the herd arrives, the shared power of a region and its people ready to make their presence felt. Rooted in Colorado’s deep historical heritage and fueled by the energy of football, the name gives fans across the Pikes Peak region a rallying cry and a shared identity.”

The spring pro football league announced its expansion to Colorado Springs in September. With specialized rules, more creative scoring and a fast-paced style of play, the UFL is growing and solidifying its strength as a player pathway to the NFL and an exciting year-round option for football fans. The new team is also a big gain for Colorado Springs, adding to the strong sports culture of Olympic City USA and sharing space with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at the fan-friendly Weidner Field, which will be the highest professional football stadium in the nation at 6,035 feet.

“The excitement in the Springs from the moment we announced a Colorado team has been palpable, and we’re incredibly excited to introduce the Colorado Stampede as the newest addition to the United Football League,” said UFL President & CEO Russ Brandon. “The Stampede name is rooted in the state’s rich heritage and the rugged, independent spirit of the Great Plains and Western frontier. More than anything, the name represents power, grit and an unstoppable force moving forward as one.”

Meet the Stampede Coach and Players

Coach Rick Neuheisel holds the reins for the team and brings players with him from his 2026 Dallas Renegades team. By shifting a base roster to Colorado Springs, the UFL says the goal is provide continuity and an established foundation of players as the new franchise begins building its presence. A UFL draft will take place on Nov. 18 in St. Louis to build the team roster and find the rest of the players to power a full-strength stampede.

“Those are the same qualities we want this team to embody on the field: a physical, relentless group that plays with toughness and competes together for this fanbase,” Brandon said. “We can’t wait for this team to charge into Weidner Field for the first time on April 11 and show Colorado what it means to ride with the Stampede.”

Current Colorado Stampede players include cornerback Tra Fluellen, tight end Seth Green, cornerback Ajene Harris, offensive tackle Raiqwon O’Neal and wide receiver Tyler Vaughns. The group was on hand at the launch party, greeting fans and signing autographs and team memorabilia.

Coach Neuheisel also addressed the crowd and mingled with fans at the launch party. Neuheisel is returning to Colorado, where he is known for his success in leading the University of Colorado Buffaloes to a 33-14 record from 1995-98. That run included Cotton Bowl victories in his first two years and a final 1996 season ranking of No. 4 in the nation.

The Stampede logo is a bison at full charge with a bold C for Colorado on its forehead. If you look closely at the mane, you’ll find the mountains of the Springs, and the horns follow a subtle s-shape for the Springs. The team colors are brown, gold, orange and white — but, of course, there’s deeper meaning there too. It’s officially Gold Rush, Bison Brown, Canyon Red and Summit White, all inspired by local geography and history including Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, the Pikes Peak Gold Rush and those burly Plains Bison.

Season tickets include five home games. They are on sale now with prices starting at $75. Fans who purchase season tickets by Nov. 1 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to St. Louis to attend the 2027 UFL Draft. The Stampede’s inaugural home game is set for Sunday, April 11, at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
