Barnwood at Great Wolf Lodge
Don’t let the waterpark-themed hotel fool you—Barnwood is a farm-to-table concept that sources most of its ingredients within 200 miles and has an on-site garden. Start with soft pretzels from local Wimberger’s Old World Bakery and Delicatessen, or try the baked goat cheese dip. For an entree, the pan seared Colorado trout hits the spot with crispy skin and is served with an array of colorful fresh vegetables. Sit on the patio for expansive views—and an evening escape from the kids.

Broken Bones BBQ
You’ll probably come into this barbecue joint expecting to get the meat sweats, but the real stars of the menu are the side dishes. The fried okra is crispy and flavorful. Instead of the usual pulled pork sandwich, order the Ran Daddy: a plate of jalapeno cheddar tots topped with mac and cheese and your choice of meat. Our suggestion: brisket.

Sometimes nothing beats a slice of ’za and an ice-cold beer. One of the few places in the city with a deep-dish option, try out the Moses with pesto marinara, jalapeno, fresh basil, mozzarella and pepperoni. The thin crust is just as good, and the oven-baked wings are almost as delicious as the pizza.
