There’s big news in the Colorado Springs craft beer community: Goat Patch Brewing Company is acquiring Pikes Peak Brewing Company. Both breweries are leaders in the local scene and among the most popular. They were both voted onto our People’s Choice: Best Breweries in Colorado Springs, with Goat Patch taking the No. 1 spot.
The move comes as Chris and Judi Wright, founders of Pikes Peak Brewing Company, announce their retirement from the brewing industry. Together they built Pikes Peak Brewing into a cornerstone of the Monument community for over 13 years and one of the largest breweries by production in the Pikes Peak region.
“It has been an honor to serve our Monument neighbors and the Colorado Craft Beer Community,” said Chris Wright in a press release. “The bonds we’ve formed over the past 13-plus years have meant the world to me and our entire staff. I am excited to watch the future of Pikes Peak Brewing with the continued support from Monument and the Colorado Craft Beer consumer.”
The breweries cite the synergy between their missions, visions and values to make the acquisition a natural next step for Goat Patch Brewing Company.
“Chris and Judi have created something truly special, and we’re excited to build on their work while unlocking new opportunities for both brands,” said Justin Grant, co-owner of Goat Patch Brewing Company. “Our goal is to merge the strengths of both breweries, ensuring that the spirit of Pikes Peak Brewing Company remains a cornerstone of the Monument community while expanding what both brands can accomplish together.”

Goat Patch currently operates at a 3,000-barrel (BBL) capacity in its Lincoln Center brewery near the Old North End of downtown. The 10,000-BBL production facility at Pikes Peak Brewing Company provides an exciting opportunity for growth for Goat Patch, which will assume operations once licensing is officially transferred. Pikes Peak Brewing’s current Monument location will remain Pikes Peak Brewing Company, and the Goat Patch teams says it is committed to preserving the legacy that the Wrights and their staff have built.
“This acquisition isn’t just about increasing our capacity — it’s about continuing a story that has meant so much to the craft beer community in Southern Colorado for over a decade,” said Cate Baze, co-owner of Goat Patch Brewing Company. “We see this as a baton being passed, and we’re excited to carry it forward with the same passion and dedication that Pikes Peak Brewing Company has always been known for.”
For more than a decade, the veteran-owned Pikes Peak Brewing has been a community gathering place in Monument, hosting regular events and supporting local organizations through its seasonal beers. While its flagship beers, such as Devils Head Red Ale and Elephant Rock IPA, are distributed throughout Colorado, its zero-proof Trail Water hop water is available in a few select spots coast to coast.
Along with excellent beer, such as its Hazy IPA, Goat Patch has built its success on building community through fun, frequent brewery events and generosity in supporting local nonprofits. Goat Patch leadership says plans are underway to explore the best ways to honor Pikes Peak Brewing Company’s identity while incorporating the values and energy of Goat Patch Brewing. While both Goat Patch and Pikes Peak beers will remain, expect to see more collaborative brews in the future from the brewing teams. Watch for news of special celebration events and releases coming soon.
The sale of Pikes Peak Brewing to Goat Patch is expected to close by the end of the year, but a final closing date is not set at this time, due to the license transfer process.
The acquisition is the second big announcement this year for Goat Patch as the brewery expands its footprint. The brewery will be opening a new location in the Northgate neighborhood of Colorado Springs in spring 2025.
