Golden, Colorado, has a long history as a gold rush town that was the capital of the Colorado Territory in the 1860s. In those days, the frontier boomtown was known as the last flat place before the Rockies. At the westernmost edge of the vast Denver metro area, you could still call it that. And if you’re mining for a golden getaway, you’ll find it in these historic foothills at the Eddy Taproom & Hotel.
Named for the calm spot in a river safe from the rushing current, the Eddy Taproom & Hotel is a luxe basecamp for relaxing and launching easy to reach outdoor adventures.
The 49-room boutique hotel is located within walking distance of Clear Creek on the site of the historic Golden Fire Brick Company. Its design captures the look of the original brick works exteriors with a vibe that blends the historic and industrial feel into a resort-like atmosphere. Room interiors have a Colorado mountain modern style, with light hardwood flooring, richly painted wood paneled walls, and leather and metal accents.

With two rooftop patios, multiple outdoor fire pits and a large yard (complete with games), The Eddy offers plenty of spaces to connect with the outdoors even if you’d rather sit and savor the surrounding mountain views.
Don’t Miss: Coors Brewery Tour
Adolph Coors began brewing beer in Golden in 1873, and the Coors Brewing Company survived the 18-year interruption of Prohibition. Using that famous Rocky Mountain spring water from Clear Creek, Coors is today the largest single-site brewery in the world. And the Coors Brewery Tour is a must-do Colorado experience.
The 90-minute tour will take you through Coors’ history and malting, brewing and packaging processes. You’ll see old photos, neon signs, historical beer cans, bottles and memorabilia — and, of course, you’ll get to sample the beer. If you’ve already taken the tour, you can skip straight to the sampling experience, but you’ll need reservations for all of the Coors Brewery offerings. Make them early; Coors tours fill up well in advance.
Where to Eat at the Eddy Taproom & Hotel

Your stay should include a visit to the Taproom, the Eddy’s in-house gastropub. The menu focuses on comfort food — a la coq a vin and brisket burnt end mac and cheese — made with seasonal, Rocky Mountain ingredients, and the selections pair well with local craft beers on tap. Try the signature Flying Eddys, a signature pale ale from Denver-based FlyteCo Brewing.
The Taproom also features creative cocktail programs to capture the local spirit. For example, its 100-Mile Cocktail program highlights ingredients produced within a 100-mile radius of the hotel, such as Denver’s own Family Jones House Gin, Golden’s High Altitude Kombucha and Palisade Peach Jam.
Off property, you’ve got lots of options in and surrounding the historic downtown Golden. Favorites include Indulge Bistro & Wine Bar for a wide-ranging elevated yet approachable menu, Abejas for a local take on fine dining, and the Golden Mill Food Hall for variety and a sprawling creekside patio.
What to Do in Golden

Golden is surrounded by foothills and high points, making it a perfect spot for outdoor adventure. Start with Clear Creek. After tumbling down out of the high country, Clear Creek is the heart of Golden, flowing right through the center of town. In warm weather, its sculpted whitewater park is a popular and fun spot for tubing and paddling. And there is prime fishing upstream. Even if the water is feeling too chilly, don’t skip the Clear Creek Trail. The wide, paved path follows the creek and is a perfect, and accessible, route for walking, running, hiking or biking.
Elsewhere, Table Mountain offers iconic Golden hiking, rewarded by panoramic views across Denver. Lookout Mountain is Golden’s highest peak; it’s the one with the big letter M on the side for the local engineering university, Colorado School of Mines. You can drive to the top, but biking it is a classic route.
Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is only about a 15-minute drive from the Eddy Taproom & Hotel, placing you in a prime spot to catch a show at the iconic concert venue. You can purchase Red Rocks transportation to and from the Eddy, or you can even add on a private Red Rock tailgating experience.
