The company is currently wrapping up its current season with its production of Flyin’ West onstage through July 27. (Watch the video below for some insights from director Marisa Hébert.) But Theatreworks has already announced its schedule for the 2025-2026 season. The new 50th anniversary season is packed with bold adventures, beloved classics and fresh new voices, all crafted to honor Theatreworks’ long legacy and launch it into the next five decades.
“For 50 years, Theatreworks has been a home for extraordinary theatre — productions that challenge, delight and bring our community together,” says interim director David Dahlin. “This season is a celebration of everything we love about theatre, and we can’t wait to share it with our audiences.”
A Season of Spectacle, Laughter and Unforgettable Moments
Reaching 50 consecutive seasons is a rare and remarkable feat for any theatre company — regional or national. Theatreworks has now produced more uninterrupted seasons than renowned institutions like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Public Theater and even the original lifespan of London’s Globe Theatre. The milestone reflects the resilience, vision and artistic excellence, as well as support from the audiences who have made it possible. Theatreworks has been a cornerstone of the local arts scene since 1975, and Dahlin says its longevity underscores the deep value of the arts in the Colorado Springs community.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect in Theatreworks’ golden season. The schedule blends the return of beloved classics that have shaped the company’s legacy alongside fresh, groundbreaking works making their Colorado Springs debut. The lineup offers a full range of styles, whether you love timeless classics, daring new visions or simply Theatreworks’ signature inventive storytelling. The first of the new plays launches in September, and season tickets are on sale now.

Cabaret
Sept. 18 – Oct. 12, 2025
Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome. Step into the decadent, crumbling world of 1920s Weimar Germany as Theatreworks transforms the Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater into an intimate cabaret club. The Tony Award-winning musical Cabaret — which Theatreworks first staged in 1987 — returns in a daring new production that blurs the line between audience and performance, reveling in the musical’s raw energy, haunting beauty and chilling relevance.
This Kander and Ebb classic introduced the world to famous characters like the enigmatic Emcee and mercurial Sally Bowles. Featuring a pared-down, three-piece band, this production trades spectacle for intimacy — drawing audiences even closer into the seductive and unsettling atmosphere of the Kit Kat Club. Directed by Scott RC Levy of the Green Box Arts Festival, the show promises an intersection of the classic and the modern in stunning, musical form.
The Importance of Being Earnest
Nov. 28 – Dec. 21, 2025
A trivial comedy for serious people. Wit, romance and mistaken identities take center stage in Oscar Wilde’s beloved comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest. First performed by Theatreworks in 2006, this fast-paced farce of manners and mischief celebrates the company’s longstanding delight in sharp humor and linguistic brilliance.
Get ready for cucumber sandwiches, secret engagements and Wilde’s most famous epigrams in a production brimming with style and charm. Returning Theatreworks collaborator Kathryn Walsh (Twelfth Night, Little Women) directs Birgitta DePree (Othello, Taming of the Shrew) as Lady Bracknell in this celebration of biting wit and hearty laughter.

Where We Stand
Jan. 29 – Feb. 15, 2026
A devilish fable of mercy. This spellbinding one-person fable by Donetta Lavinia Grays invites the audience into a world of community, and consequences. The story starts with a choice but ends with a vote. Part play, part poetry, part concert, Where We Stand is a deeply moving and electrifying modern storytelling experience.
Making its Colorado debut, this contemporary tale speaks to the choices we make and the bonds that hold us together. Expect an unforgettable journey into the heart of human connection. Marisa Hébert directs this one person play for Colorado audiences.
Romeo and Juliet
April 9 – May 3, 2026
“These violent delights have violent ends.” A love story as old as time — but never quite like this. In honor of Theatreworks’ very first Shakespeare production in 1976, we return to Romeo and Juliet with a bold and thrilling new staging directed by Max Shulman, (An Iliad, Free-for-All: Pericles, Henry IV & V) in his first directorial outing as Theatreworks’ Artistic Director. Passion, violence, and poetry collide in Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, proving that the story of star-crossed lovers remains as urgent and relevant as ever.
The Garbologists
June 11 – June 28, 2026
A sharp and heartfelt comedy by Lindsay Joelle, The Garbologists follows two sanitation workers, Danny and Marlowe, as they navigate early mornings, clashing personalities and the surprising treasures of New York City’s streets. Directed by GerRee Hinshaw (Dream Hou$e), this unexpected workplace story reminds us that connection can bloom even in the messiest of places, closing the season with charm, laughter and plenty of trash talk.
