After months of anticipation, Codswallop! is opening its doors in Old Colorado City. The restaurant will primarily operate as a takeout spot with limited seating, aiming to provide an authentic British chip shop experience to the community.
Originally slated for a late 2024 debut, the fast-casual eatery faced setbacks related to city approvals and inspections, pushing its opening into spring 2025. Codswallop is the latest venture from the British Food Group, the team behind the former Chippy and the forthcoming Brit Pub at Weidner Field.
The menu offers a variety of fish and chips options, including wild Atlantic haddock, cod, and budget-friendly swai, all prepared in small batches throughout the day. At Codswallop, guests will be able to choose from full fish-and-chips meals or fish-only portions. For those who prefer non-seafood fare, the kitchen serves battered sausage, poutine and a kids’ menu featuring chicken tenders and sausage with chips.
Additional offerings include house-made pasties — available in steak and ale, chicken and vegetables, or cheese and onion — along with British staples like curry sauce, mushy peas and baked beans. Codswallop! also honors classic chip shop culture with a humble but beloved side: scraps, or crispy fried batter bits, for just 25 cents. Imported British and Irish sodas are available, and a sticky toffee pudding adds a sweet finish.
