Shivers Taphouse

Shivers Taphouse brings fire and ice to downtown Colorado Springs.

Shivers Taphouse is now open in downtown Colorado Springs. But the patio bar will celebrate its grand opening on March 15 with a DJ, karaoke and St. Patrick’s Day specials.

Located on the southeast corner of South Nevada Avenue and Costilla Street, Shivers has taken over the space once occupied by The Garden and Nomads. If you’ve driven down Nevada Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs and spotted a giant yeti looking back at you, you’ve found the place.

Rick Arrick, his wife, Debbie, and their son, Caden, are bringing to life a dream more than 20 years in the making. Coming from backgrounds in real estate and education, Rick admits they have a lot to learn but are grateful for the patience of their patrons. “We are absolutely learning as we go,” he says with a laugh. “Our customers have been very patient and understanding. A lot of people ask if we have experience, so I think they can tell that we don’t. But that’s OK. Our customers have given us some of the best ideas on how to show up well for them. Our goal is to give them their bar their way, so we appreciate the ‘if I were you’ conversations we get.”

Shivers boasts a 4,200-square-foot dog-friendly patio featuring four firepits, standing heaters and excellent views of Pikes Peak. Inspired by its yeti mascot, Dennis, the bar embraces a fire-and-ice theme. Guests can order a charcuterie board and toast their cheese like a s’more over the fire while enjoying one of Shivers’ signature dry ice cocktails. The bar also offers 18 beers on tap. Its permanent food truck, Chef Rob’s Soul Food and Seafood, serves up award-winning buffalo wings and other comfort foods. And you don’t want to miss the selfie wall where you can take pictures with a life-sized Dennis the yeti.

Beyond drinks and food, Shivers plans to be a lively hub for events, including “Pick Our Next Tap-Tasting Tuesday,” themed trivia nights, bingo, karaoke, summer movie nights and goat yoga. When the colder months set in, expect holiday-themed events like a winter wonderland pop-up, complete with Christmas trees and spiked hot chocolate. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for upcoming events.

Shivers Taphouse is open Tuesday through Sunday, with plans to extend hours as demand (and daylight) grows.
