A couple years ago we asked, “Is bingo the new trivia night?” The old-time game of school classrooms, senior centers and smoke-filled bingo parlors has come a long way. The money-stakes version is still alive and well at local bingo halls, minus the haze of cigarette smoke, of course. But its free-to-play version continues to have its moment around local bars, breweries and restaurants where friends can gather for a low-stakes good time.
Today’s bar bingo often involves music, adding another layer of entertainment and nostalgia to the mix, and some venues even combine early bingo sessions and later karaoke.
If you’re keeping score, trivia is still king. You can find our lengthy list of Colorado Springs trivia nights here. But bingo is popular as well. And in our unscientific research, we found that the two games are not mutually exclusive. Rather than replacing trivia, bingo adds another entertainment option for breweries and bars to add to their entertainment options. And even though it’s free to play, you can walk away with fun swag and prizes. The result is more fun for the rest of us.
