When Roth’s Sea & Steak opened last fall, Executive Chef Ricky Biswas made it clear that winning awards and raising the profile of the Colorado Springs dining scene were priorities. It didn’t take long for Roth’s to earn its first major recognition. The restaurant received two awards from the Star Wine List of The Year 2026 International Open – The Americas, an international competition that spotlights the world’s most compelling wine destinations and thoughtfully curated wine lists.
Roth’s Sea & Steak received a Silver Star in the Best Newcomer List category and a Bronze Star in the Best Medium-Sized List – The Americas category, for wine lists featuring 200-600 references.
The prestigious Star Wine List is often regarded as the Michelin Guide of wine, and its finalist honor places Roth’s Sea & Steak among a select group of new destinations across North and South America recognized for thoughtful wine curation and a standout guest experience. Roth’s was named alongside Gold Star recipient, Café Vivant, Menlo Park, California, and fellow Silver Star recipient Gnomo Vinhos, São Paulo, Brazil,.
“When we built the wine program at Roth’s, we wanted it to feel thoughtful from the beginning, not just impressive on paper,” said Jeroen Erens, General Manager and Wine Director at Roth’s Sea & Steak. “We put a lot of focus on small estates and winemakers who are doing things the right way, especially those committed to organic and sustainable practices. That naturally led us to limited production bottles that are genuinely hard to find, along with a few selections guests can only enjoy here, like our custom Roth’s Founders Cut. Every wine earns its place for its quality, but also for the story behind it, the people, the history, and the craftsmanship in every vintage.”
Erens’ career includes extensive experience with wine, including a tenure as export director for Domäne Wachau, one of Austria’s most celebrated white wine producers. As we noted in our feature article on Roth’s, the wine offerings boast an impressive span of approachable affordability to rare and expensive bottles.
“Being named a finalist by Star Wine List is a tremendous honor and a meaningful reflection of the passion our team brings to the dining room every night,” Erens said.
The Star Wine List Best Newcomer List – The Americas category is judged by an internationally respected panel of wine professionals, including Julie Dupouy Young, four-time Best Sommelier in Ireland and third place finisher at the 2016 ASI Best Sommelier of the World competition, Jonathan Gouveia, Master Sommelier, and Stefan Neumann, Master Sommelier.
“It’s amazing to see such commitment to crafting these diverse and beautiful wine lists throughout the world,” Gouveia said. “This year’s winners provide a great picture of how the wine world is full of surprises, introducing you to countries and regions you might not think you’d encounter. Even in the far reaches of the world, there is a dedication to sourcing high quality bottles.”
