Josh and John’s

The hometown premium ice cream shop plans a new location in Ivywild.

If you’re an ice cream lover in Colorado Springs, you know Josh and John’s. The craft creamery has been scooping its rich and creative premium ice cream flavors in downtown Colorado Springs for decades, and it has multiple shops along the Front Range. Now Josh and John’s is preparing to open its sixth current location in the Creekwalk shopping center in Ivywild.

The new scoop-house will fill the former Crumbl Cookie location, and Krakauer says it will have similar decor and vibes to the downtown shop, thanks in part to an interior exposed brick wall. One unique feature in the works is the return of an active ice cream churn that will allow guests to sample and order one featured flavor at a time. Krakauer calls it “churn fresh.” He says his team is still fine-tuning the plan but hopes it will be a regular, ongoing offering at the Ivywild store. Long-time fans will remember watching and tasting ice cream being made on the churn in the front windows of Josh and John’s former downtown location on Pikes Peak Avenue.

Josh and John’s has been a favorite for locals and visitors since it began in 1986, founded by Colorado College grad John Krakauer and his friend Josh Paris. It tops our list for Best Ice Cream in Colorado Springs, and it’s not uncommon to find lines out the door. The menu features a large list of flagship flavors that always includes several vegan options, and the craft creamery has recently launched a collection of special Fall Festival flavors in take-home pints for the holidays.

The creamery currently has three locations in Colorado Springs — downtown, Mountain Shadows and Flying Horse — plus outposts in Fort Collins and Loveland. The company makes all of its ice cream at its Churn Barn in Colorado Springs.

Krakauer says he expects Josh and John’s at Creekwalk to open by the beginning of March 2025.
