Old Colorado City is welcoming several new businesses in the coming months, including two pizzerias, a jewelry store and a gift shop in the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Colorado Avenue. One of the new pizza restaurants, Pizzeria Leopold, will open its doors this May. The OCC location marks the second for owners Chris and Lindsay Lyons, who have built a following in Lakewood for their handcrafted pizzas and Italian sandwiches.
We can’t wait to try the Diavola pizza layered with fresh mozzarella, pepperoncini (those adorably tasty, sweet peppers), Calabrese salami, basil, pecorino and finished with a drizzle of Calabrian chili oil.
Looking for authentic ingredients to make your own creation? Pizzeria Leopold’s will also have a small grocery and deli stocked with house-made and imported Italian staples like meatballs, cheeses and sauces. A planned rooftop bar, complete with an outdoor wood-fired oven, will serve up piping hot pies with mountain views.
The Lyons family presence extends beyond pizza. Chris’ mother, Christina Lyons, will open Sister’s Gift House just a few doors down at 2426 W. Colorado Avenue. The specialty shop will honor the memory of Christina’s sister through a curated collection of Native American jewelry, novelty T-shirts and souvenirs.
